When Jonathon Isola decided it was time to go back to school for his MBA, he performed a SWOT analysis to find the best option. As an Assistant Vice President at General Motors Financial, he wanted a rigorous education that would build on his 17 years of experience.
“I was trying to find something that was challenging, where I would learn and gain skills,” he explained.

Managerial Finance was Jonathon’s favorite MBA course because it kept him engaged at a high level. “Every lecture, I was on the edge of my seat, asking questions and learning,” he marveled.
Jonathon says the leadership models and strategies he studied throughout the program also made a significant impact on him.
“Leadership theory goes beyond what you would learn from seminars at work or how-to books,” he said. “These classes really go into it.”
Despite his extensive background in business, Jonathon learned something new about his management style that was a revelation. He had been practicing servant leadership his entire career without knowing it. “Growing the employees is really what motivates me to wake up every day and come to work,” he said.
Understanding the concept of serving others through leadership is now helping him become a stronger manager for his staff. “I look to give them all the support they need and be their advocate,” he said.
Jonathon said the strength of the program, and the supportive online learning environment at TAMU-CC, gave him much more than he expected from his MBA experience. “It’s a great program,” he said. “It’s the nicest people, professors, faculty, and the greatest staff.”
