  • What’s the value of the program for today’s professionals?

The value of the program for today’s professionals is undoubtedly the SHRM alignment. TAMU-CC is an SHRM academic partner, widely regarded as a top choice for students seeking a career in human resources. We award professional development credits for courses offered to SHRM-certified students seeking to maintain their credentials. For managers or aspiring HR professionals, it provides a foundation in SHRM behavioral competencies, toolkits, and best practices that can help them further develop their careers and transform their organizations.

  • What’s the best advice you could give your students?

Never. Stop. Learning. It seems cliché, but the most successful people I know have a mentality of continuous learning. With the constant evolution of the workplace, the best way to strategically align yourself with success is to never be too proud to learn new things. Ask questions. Do research. Challenge yourself. Growth can be a painful process, but it is worth it. And the diploma is not the end of your learning journey. Innovation is key to being relevant today, tomorrow, and throughout your career.

  • Why did you start teaching?

I took a career assessment in high school that said I should be a teacher. I brushed it off, thinking I would be a terrible elementary or high school teacher, and pursued a business degree in college. Fast forward to a boring career in oil and gas accounting, and I decided to go back to school for a PhD with the ultimate goal of teaching in higher education. Teaching is riddled with many challenges, but it is also extremely rewarding to see your students land a promotion or dream job. I enjoy the challenge of constantly reinventing the course to match the dynamic workplace environment.

  • How do you see online learning affecting the future of education?

Online learning has challenged me to be more innovative in my course delivery. I have integrated generative AI, role-plays, HR analytics, and cases to engage students and apply the course material to industry standards and job market demands. I enjoy bringing examples from pop culture, sports, and social media to show how human resource management decisions are being made all around us. The integration of technology into online courses allowed me to start a vodcast-style lecture format, inviting industry guest speakers through online interviews. This gives students a variety of perspectives from HR professionals across multiple industries (e.g., sports, hospitality, healthcare, consulting) and aids their ability to transfer knowledge from the classroom to the workplace.

  • Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students might not know

I am a thrill-seeker who loves roller coasters and traveling the world with my family. Stand-up comedy and documentaries are my go-to picks on Netflix.
